With Home Safe Alerts, Snapchat users can send one-time check-in notifications to trusted contacts upon reaching their home location.
Snapchat introduced the new feature known as Home Safe, with the purpose of making users feel safer when they are alone while traveling or coming back home late. With the feature, users can alert their trusted friends or family whenever they have reached their destination safely.
To activate it, Snapchatters just designate their home location through their Bitmoji on Snap Map and enable a one-time alert by opening the Map icon within a chat and clicking on “Home Safe.” When the app recognizes that the user has arrived at their specified home address, it sends a subtle alert to pre-approved contacts—providing peace of mind without having to constantly check in.
Designed with Privacy at Its Core
Snapchat has gone out of its way to explain that Home Safe alerts is not real-time tracking. The alert only functions with existing friends who have access to the user’s location, and it’s an initial alert that doesn’t remain constant throughout the trip.

Location sharing is still an option and can always be disabled, with users having complete control over their privacy. The feature extends Snapchat’s current security features, such as location-sharing controls and the Family Center, through which parents have been able to see what their teenagers are up to without being intrusive.
