China has boldly stepped into the future of city mobility with the introduction of the VT-35, a completely Pilotless flying taxi owned by EHang Holdings. The advanced electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air vehicle is a breakthrough in the worldwide competition for intelligent, sustainable transportation.

The Future of Urban Air Mobility

The VT-35 will transform short-distance travel in dense city environments. With a streamlined two-seater cabin, the aircraft features a 950-kilogram maximum payload and travels up to 200 kilometers per charge. Its eight lift propellers provide smooth vertical takeoff and landing, making it perfect for rooftop pads, parking lots, and other small urban areas.

What makes the VT-35 stand out is its completely autonomous flight system. Riders can experience a smooth ride without the presence of a pilot, thanks to the latest navigation and control technologies. The cabin has a touchscreen system for route planning and entertainment, providing a futuristic travel experience that combines comfort with innovation.

Successful Test Flights

EHang has just concluded a successful transition test flight of the VT-35, proving its technical readiness for mass commercial deployment. The aircraft also conducted a ship landing test in another milestone, highlighting its operational capability in dynamic settings. Such milestones highlight the VT-35’s versatility and dependability in practical applications.

Regulatory Approval and Commercial Rollout

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has granted air operator certificates to EHang and its subsidiary Heyi Aviation, paving the way for commercialization. This regulatory approval makes China a leader worldwide in autonomous aerial mobility and lays the groundwork for mass adoption of pilotless air taxis.

Changing the Way China and the World Move

EHang sees the VT-35 as a solution to traffic congestion and air pollution in cities. Through low-altitude air travel, the company hopes to quicken commuting time and make it cleaner and more efficient. China’s smart city endeavors will center around the VT-35, which has the potential to spark similar innovation elsewhere.
