Chrome for Android introduces edge to edge browsing, with an immersive experience where web content flows seamlessly beyond the gesture navigation bar.

Android users, prepare for a cleaner, more immersive browsing experience! Google Chrome for Android has finally caught up with the edge-to-edge design trend, giving your web browsing a more modern and seamless feel. Beginning with Chrome 135, which started rolling out in April 2025, the browser is now allowing web content to spill all the way down to the bottom of your screen, below the gesture nav bar. Hello to a more visually clean and immersive experience for browsing the internet, phone-style!

For some time now, most Android apps have been embracing the edge-to-edge look, with content flowing right across the screen. Chrome was one of the high-profile holdouts, tending to show a solid background on top of the gesture navigation. But those days are behind us! Google has now switched it on, and the effect is a small but noticeable enhancement to the look of your browsing experience.

What is Edge-to-Edge Design?

With the edge-to-edge feature, web content can now extend out to the edges of the screen, even beyond the navigation bar for gesture-based devices. No more jarring visual interruptions brought about by huge black bars at the bottom of your screen. Rather, you get to experience the full immersive view, where the content seems to flow from your very fingers.

Why It Matters?

This shift to an edge-to-edge design marks Google’s dedication to offering a contemporary and visually coherent user experience in the Android environment. It brings Chrome in line with the design language of numerous other top apps, building a more harmonious and immersive experience as you move through your digital existence. It’s a subtle tweak, but one that helps to create a more refined and pleasant browsing experience on your Android phone.

Who Can Use It?

This new feature is only found currently on Android devices with gesture navigation. Sadly, those with three-button navigation or tablets won’t notice this update—at least, not yet. However, given Chrome’s history of gradual development, we can soon expect wider compatibility.

How to Use Edge-to-Edge Browsing?

If you would like to use this modern design, here’s how you can do it:

Update Chrome: Make sure you are using the latest version of Chrome (version 135 or later).

Enable Flags: Launch Chrome and enter chrome://flags in the address bar. Look for “Edge-to-Edge” and toggle the corresponding flag.

Restart Chrome: Close your browser and reopen it to enable the feature.

In just these few easy steps, you can begin enjoying the improved browsing experience right away.

The Impact on Web Design

This shift also challenges web designers to think outside the box. Sites optimized for the edge-to-edge experience will have to make sure their content is still visually appealing and functional, even when dealing with navigation bars. It’s a challenge, but one that opens the door to innovation in mobile web design.

Google Chrome’s edge-to-edge style is not merely a function—sensationalism. It symbolizes the technology giant’s mission to craft an effortless and user-centric web experience. With the progression of this style, we can look forward to more groundbreaking things happening in the future of mobile web browsing.
