WhatsApp rolls out night mode for its camera, letting users capture clearer, brighter photos in low light. Available now for select beta testers.
WhatsApp is enhancing its camera feature with the rollout of a new night mode, designed to improve photo clarity in low-light conditions. The feature, which recently went live for some beta testers, introduces a crescent moon icon to the in-app camera screen.
Users can enable night mode manually by tapping on this icon so that the app will boost brightness, cut noise, and sharpen details in dark lighting—all without having to use flash or external filters.
A Manual Boost for Nighttime Shots
Unlike native camera programs, which adjust lighting automatically, WhatsApp’s night mode has to be enabled manually. This lets the user have more control over when to utilize the feature in environments such as indoor gatherings, walking in the evening, or poorly lit rooms.

Though the improvement is software-based and not as effective as flagship phone night modes, it still provides a perceivable increase in clarity and exposure for everyday photography within the app.
Beta Rollout and What’s Coming Next
The feature is, however, in the testing phase of the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.22.2, with a wider rollout promised to follow soon. With WhatsApp slowly developing beyond messaging, this update shows its move towards becoming an even more diverse platform for sharing media.
Interested users can try the feature ahead of others by signing up for the beta program through the Google Play Store, while the rest should wait for future updates when night mode becomes available.
