To start a voice session, users just tap on the waveform icon within the Chats tab or start it directly from the Calls tab. WhatsApp also includes an optional setting to automatically start voice chats when launching Meta AI, providing users with complete control of their experience.

The interface features pre-written questions to assist in leading conversations and enables users to add photos from their camera or gallery to visually illustrate their questions. Better yet, the voice chat persists in the background while changing apps, so users can read notes out loud or surf the web while Meta AI listens and responds.
Privacy First, Always
Meta and WhatsApp are highlighting privacy in this launch. Users have the ability to mute the microphone or terminate the session at any moment. On iOS, there is a visible orange dot when the mic is being used, whereas Android employs a green dot—both system-level notifications that can’t be turned off, making the data point clear when Meta AI is listening.
