Ubisoft has officially reignited excitement for the Splinter Cell remake, confirming that development is progressing steadily. The project, which had gone quiet for some time, is now back in the spotlight with renewed leadership and clear direction. As Ubisoft Toronto continues to shape the future of Sam Fisher’s legendary missions, fans of stealth gaming can finally feel a sense of relief.

David Grivel Returns to Lead the Project

One of the most significant updates is the return of David Grivel, the original game director. Having left Ubisoft in 2022 to join EA’s Ridgeline Games, Grivel now returns to take the helm of this remake. His return makes many fans confident that the project is in capable hands to bring continuity and vision to a franchise that set the standard for stealth gameplay for generations.

Built on the Snowdrop Engine

The remake is currently in development under Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine—a technology also powering The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora—which promises state-of-the-art lighting, photorealistic environments, and immersive stealth mechanics. Snowdrop is expected to elevate the tense atmosphere made so iconic by the original Splinter Cell.

Faithful to classic stealth gameplay

Ubisoft confirmed that the remake would retain the linearity and mission-based stealth design of the original. This will be less of an open-world experience and more about navigating tailor-made missions that require patience, precision, and strategy. It will maintain the DNA of Splinter Cell while improving upon visuals and mechanics.

Platforms and Release Window Speculation

Confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the Splinter Cell Remake will be an actual next-generation gaming experience. Ubisoft has not revealed any specific release date yet, but considering the usual cycles of triple-A game development, industry speculation ranges from a possible late 2026 to 2027 release. Until then, the fans have to wait patiently for trailers and gameplay footage that will show how Sam Fisher’s return is materializing.

What This Means for Stealth Gaming Fans

For longtime fans, the remake means more than just nostalgia; it’s an opportunity to see stealth gameplay revamped for modern hardware. Under Grivel’s lead, Snowdrop’s technical prowess, and Ubisoft’s refounded focus, the Splinter Cell Remake might just raise the bar for stealth action games. The silence has finally broken, and the shadow of Sam Fisher is ready to fall once more.
