WhatsApp Introduces Guest Chat feature for Account-Free Messaging

guest chat feature

The guest chat feature on WhatsApp allows instant messaging without registration. Enjoy encrypted, text-only chats through a simple browser link.

WhatsApp is piloting a new Guest Chat feature, which allows users to participate in chats without signing up for an account or downloading the app. The innovation aims to make communication easier by facilitating one-on-one conversations using a secure browser interface. Users can enter a chat by clicking on a unique invite link, making it perfect for brief, frictionless interactions.

Secure, Simple, and Temporary Communication

Although it is light in weight, Guest Chat retains WhatsApp’s characteristic end-to-end encryption, keeping both sides secure and private. The feature, however, has its limitations: it offers text-only messaging, leaves out media exchange and voice/video calls, and is limited to one-to-one chats. When the session expires, the chat is erased, and it is perfect for temporary or anonymous communication.

A Step Towards Increased Accessibility

Guest Chat is still in beta and will roll out more widely in the months ahead. The feature will support WhatsApp’s push for increased accessibility and adherence to changing digital regulation, particularly in markets such as the EU. For customer service, event planning, or just messaging, Guest Chat may change the way individuals interact—no account needed.
