WhatsApp Tests Disappear About Status Feature in Beta

Disappear About status feature

The new Disappear About status feature on WhatsApp auto-removes your profile message after a timer, keeping your status fresh and relevant.

WhatsApp is launching a dynamic update to its “About” status feature, allowing users to set temporary descriptions that will disappear after a specified duration. Traditionally, the About section has been a static space for users to share a brief message about themselves—like “Available,” “Busy,” or “At the gym.” With this new feature, WhatsApp is giving users more flexibility and control, allowing them to set a status that reflects their current mood or activity and then have it fade away without requiring manual removal.

Timed Expiration for More Contextual Updates

Many preset durations are set that range from 30 minutes to 1 day for the About status, including 30 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, and 1 day. Then the user has the possibility to set a custom timer for up to one month. What this feature allows you to do is indicate to your contacts that you’re in a meeting for the next hour or on vacation for the week—without worrying about recalling to switch it later. When the timer expires, the status vanishes from public view but is still visible to the user for reference purposes.

Improved Visibility and Privacy Controls

Temporary contacts with the approval already to view your About status will see the temporary version. It will be visible alongside your “Last Seen” data at the top of chat windows, providing instant context to the people who message you. The feature provides an additional layer of real-time relevance to your profile while keeping WhatsApp’s commitment to privacy intact. Users can also edit or remove the status manually at any time, even before it auto-expires.

Beta Testing and Future Rollout

This feature is currently live for select beta testers running WhatsApp on Android (version 2.25.22.22). If it’s a success during testing, WhatsApp will be rolling it out to more users soon. With emoji support and customizable timers added to the mix, this update introduces a new, expressive aspect to how users express themselves about their availability and mood—making WhatsApp feel more personal and dynamic than ever.
